On April 25th, the 43rd edition of the 50 km di Romagna kicks off—a historic ultramarathon through the Senio Valley.
The race starts at 8:30 AM from the central Piazza Bernardi in Castel Bolognese and continues along a scenic road route through the hills of the valley.
The event combines tradition, the local passion for sport, and a close connection with the landscape. After leaving the town, runners are immersed in fields, vineyards, olive groves, and gypsum ridges, passing through hamlets and small villages.
The route winds through the Senio Valley, passing through Riolo Terme and Casola Valsenio:
- Following the Senio Valley, you reach Cuffiano and, at the 10th km, Riolo Terme, passing by the Sforza Fortress. After a short descent and a flat 3 km stretch to Isola, the undulating terrain leading to Borgo Rivola begins.
- From there, the route climbs steadily to Casola Valsenio, the turning point of the race.
- A short but steep descent precedes the climb toward Monte Albano: 5 km with 265 m of elevation gain. At the top, a 4.5 km descent leads to Zattaglia.
- The route continues along the Sintria stream valley with some climbs up to Villa Vezzano, 9 km from the finish line.
- From here, a slight descent leads to Biancanigo, crossed 2 km from the finish, retracing the first few kilometers to conclude in Piazza Bernardi.
The 2026 medal is dedicated to the Abbey of San Giovanni Battista in Valsenio, one of the most important monuments in the valley, which athletes can admire during the race.
