Here, ceramics is part of daily life. A shared language across generations, where ancient skills meet contemporary visions. A heritage that is alive, shaped together with the community.
In every ceramic fragment, there is a piece of Faenza.
Faenza and Faïence
Faenza is not just a place, it is the world’s translation of maiolica: faïence in French, faience in English. A story rooted in antiquity, born from the local clay and transformed into an artform during the Renaissance. A tradition that continues to tell stories to this day.
You can contact our offices to create a customized itinerary exploring our workshops and discovering those that offer hands-on ceramic experiences and classes.

Beauty on display
Around Faenza, ceramics are collected, exhibited, and interpreted in many different places: a shared language that speaks to everyone.
The International Museum of Ceramics (MIC), with more than 60,000 ancient and contemporary works from across the world, stands as a dynamic cultural hub, home to a specialised library, restoration workshops, exhibitions, events, and the renowned Faenza Prize.
Nearby, the Carlo Zauli Museum invites visitors into the artist’s former workshop-studio, from the clay cellar to the hall of monumental high reliefs, where organic ceramics take shape as sculpture and contemporary narratives.
The journey continues with museums such as the Guerrino Tramonti Museum and the Leandro Lega Museum, both offering deeply personal and artistic interpretations of ceramics that move beyond form to reveal the inner spirit of this art. Together, these museums form an essential part of any visit Around Faenza.
Ceramics come to life, every day
Strolling through the streets of Faenza, you will come across workshops where every object is shaped by the hands of skilled ceramists. These are living spaces, marked by their oval ceramic signs, where materials and traditions are still crafted today. Around 60 workshops carry centuries of experience, patience, and creativity. Visiting a workshop is a chance to witness a piece of art come to life—from a humble terracotta “biscuit,” hand-painted and fired in the kiln. Here, daily craftsmanship preserves ancient knowledge while renewing it, transforming raw clay into pure beauty.
In addition to these workshops, visit Spazio Ceramica Faenza: a collective showcase where numerous local ceramists display and sell their work. It is a meeting place and a space for discovery, offering a comprehensive view of contemporary Faenza ceramics—from accessible creations to unique pieces and temporary exhibitions—all in a single location.
