Domenico Baccarini and His Terracotta Works at the Faenza Municipal Art Gallery
From 5 to 20 September 2026, to coincide with Argillà, the major Italian ceramics trade fair, the Pinacoteca Comunale di Faenza (Faenza Municipal Art Gallery) presents “Domenico Baccarini e le sue terrecotte” (Domenico Baccarini and His Terracotta Works), a small but significant exhibition dedicated to the great Faenza-born artist, one of the leading figures on the Italian cultural scene in the early 20th century.
Alongside his paintings, the exhibition presents four terracotta masterpieces not normally on public display: “Pensiero” (Thought), a bust of a young woman captured in a moment of meditation; the “Bust of the Mother” and the relief “Interno familiare” (Family Interior), which capture with remarkable freshness a moment of domestic intimacy; and finally “Bitta in piedi con Maria Teresa in braccio” (Bitta Standing with Maria Teresa in Her Arms), a work in which maternal tenderness reaches its peak, showing a mother holding her child close and kissing her neck.
Together with the paintings on display, these terracotta works form an exceptional visual biography of Baccarini, punctuated by the female figures of his close family circle.
