UNESCO Day 2026 at MIC Faenza: Free Open Day with Storage Tours, Guided Visits and Workshops
On Sunday 4 October 2026, from 2:00 to 7:00 PM, MIC Faenza celebrates the UNESCO recognition awarded to the museum in 2011 as an “expression of a culture of peace” with a free open day.
From 4:00 PM, the museum offers free guided tours, children’s workshops and, as a special exception this year, the chance to visit the storage rooms, a true Museum within the Museum holding around 80% of its entire collection — roughly 36,000 to 40,000 works. At the same time, visitors can also tour the restoration workshop, where the recently restored porcelain sculpture group “Amore e Psiche” (Love and Psyche, c. 1750, Ginori Manufactory) will be on preview display.
Event Schedule
- 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM: tours of the storage rooms and restoration workshop, staggered entry in groups of 12, departing every 30 minutes. Booking required.
- 4:00 PM: guided tour of the exhibition “Nordic Table Design. 1900-1970. A Quiet Feminine Revolution”. Booking recommended.
- 4:15 PM and 5:00 PM: guided tour of the Historic Library. Free access.
- 4:30 PM: guided tour of the MIC’s Masterpieces. Booking recommended.
- 5:00 PM: guided tour of the East Asia Collection. Booking recommended.
- 4:00 PM and 5:15 PM: free workshop “Giocare con la Ceramica” (Playing with Ceramics) for children of all ages. Booking required.
- 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM: pottery wheel demonstrations and free clay-modelling activities for families.
- 4:00 PM: screening of Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis” (1927), with live piano accompaniment by Rossella Spinosa, performing her own original score. The screening serves as a preview for the Soavi Armonie 2026 music series, now in its sixth edition. Conference Hall, free access.
