European Mobility Week 2026 in Faenza: From Giretto d’Italia to Critical Mass

From 16 to 22 September 2026, the European Mobility Week returns to Faenza, the annual event dedicated to sustainable transport and the use of urban space, organised by the Mobility and Smart City Service of the Unione Romagna Faentina. This year’s theme is “Mobility for All”, with a focus on dialogue between generations and their diverse mobility needs.

Thursday 17 September – Giretto d’Italia

From 7:30 to 9:30 AM, in Faenza’s historic centre, “Giretto d’Italia” takes place — the largest sustainable urban mobility competition, promoted by Legambiente in collaboration with FIAB Faenza. A team of volunteers will staff two checkpoints, at Porta Ravegnana (near the Bersagliere monument) and Porta Montanara (near the cyclist fountain), monitoring people travelling on foot, by bike or scooter to school or work. The collected data will feed into Legambiente’s national ranking of the most virtuous municipalities. In case of rain or bad weather, the survey will be postponed to Monday 21 September.

Saturday 19 September – La città che pedala (The Cycling City)

An afternoon, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, dedicated to cycling between Parco Azzurro and Via Pistocchi, featuring several activities open to the public:

  • 4:00 PM, Via Paolo Galli 10: opening and ribbon-cutting for OFF POP – Officine Popolari, the new community bike workshop.
  • 4:30 PM: a session on road safety and responsible cycling, led by the Local Police.
  • 5:00 PM: a contest ahead of the social bike ride.
  • 5:30 PM: departure of the Critical Mass, a social bike ride around the city with the group Bike Life Faenza, conceived as a way of reclaiming cycling space in the city, open to residents of all ages.
  • Around 6:15 PM, Via Pistocchi: the ride ends with a communal aperitivo at Le Botteghe.

“European Mobility Week is an important moment to rethink how we use our urban spaces. Our focus on intergenerational mobility reminds us that guaranteeing the right to travel safely means meeting the needs of children, young people and the elderly,” said Luca Ortolani, the councillor responsible for Mobility, highlighting how the opening of Officine Popolari and the Critical Mass ride show the value of cooperation between the administration and local organisations.
