On Friday 30 October 2026 at 6:00 pm, the Liceo Torricelli Alumni Association presents “Faenza, the Jesuits and Their Library: Stories, Legends, Discoveries” in Faenza, part of the Le conversazioni dell’auditorium series.
What the talk is about
Even many locals know little about the long history of the Jesuits in Faenza. Yet it was in the old “red palace” on via Santa Maria dell’Angelo, still home to the oldest lyceum in Italy, that the Society of Jesus taught students for over two centuries. Evangelista Torricelli, the most famous son of Faenza, studied here. The Jesuits also left the school a library with no equal among Italian school institutions.
Speaker and display
The talk is given by Stefano Drei, for many years a teacher at the lyceum and now vice president of the Alumni Association. A selection of rare books and surprising finds from the library will be on display.
