Traditional Japanese Kintsugi Workshop at MIC Faenza with Irene Carlino
On the occasion of Argillà Italia 2026, the MIC – International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza will host a special workshop on the ancient art of traditional Japanese Kintsugi on Saturday, 5 September 2026, led by teacher and expert Irene Carlino.
The event offers both an introduction and a hands-on experience exploring the history, Wabi-sabi philosophy and craftsmanship behind this art, with a focus on the use of genuine natural Urushi lacquer and gold powder.

An in-depth exploration of the historical and cultural origins of Kintsugi, the aesthetic principles of Wabi-sabi philosophy, and the evolution of lacquer art in Japanese craft tradition.

Live demonstrations led by Irene Carlino and a practical experience of “Kin-maki”, the refined technique of dusting gold powder onto Urushi lacquer.
