Republic Day 2026 in Faenza: Official Celebration Program

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the 1946 institutional referendum, the Municipality of Faenza, in collaboration with local associations, presents a rich calendar of cultural events, exhibitions, film screenings, and official ceremonies celebrating the birth of the Italian Republic.

Below is the detailed schedule of events taking place from May 29 to June 8, 2026.


Events and Ceremonies Calendar

  • Monday, June 1 (9:00 PM) – Film Screening in Granarolo
    At the Parish Courtyard of Granarolo (entrances from Via Lanzoni 1 and Via Maddalena Venturi 2), there will be a screening of Paola Cortellesi’s acclaimed film “There’s Still Tomorrow”. The initiative is promoted by local volunteer associations. The evening will begin at 9:00 PM with the talk “Women and the Constitution” by Professor Antonella Baccarini. In case of bad weather, the event will move to the district hall in Piazza Manfredi 2.
  • Tuesday, June 2 (from 10:00 AM) – Open Day at the Second World War Museum
    The Second World War and Shoah Museum (Via Castellani 25) will open its doors to the public with guided tours. The event is organized by the Argylls Romagna Group and will run from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
  • Tuesday, June 2 (from 2:30 PM) – “One Day in Africa” in Piazza Nenni
    An event promoted by the Faenza Multietnica Social Promotion Association aimed at raising awareness among citizens and foreign workers about constitutional values, workplace safety, and the social participation of migrant women. The program includes first-aid workshops led by Giama & Partners Medical Center, themed stands, live music, food trucks, and the traditional Wazigua ceremony honoring a woman recognized for her social commitment.
  • Tuesday, June 2 (9:00 PM) – Grand Republic Ball
    Held in the Ballroom of the Museum of the Risorgimento (Corso Garibaldi 2), this historical dance event in 19th-century costume is organized by Società di Danza – Faenza. The ball will be preceded at 8:30 PM by a parade departing from the Town Hall. Participation is limited and advance booking is required by calling 320 4325250.
  • Wednesday, June 3 (9:15 AM – 11:30 AM) – Official Ceremony in Reda
    The official celebration will take place at the “Cerini” Middle School (Via Selva Faentina 65), attended by students, the Youth Council, and local authorities. The program includes a flag tribute, national anthems, and the presentation of a Youth Council project dedicated to gender equality. Students will officially propose naming a public space after a distinguished woman from Faenza.
  • Monday, June 8 (5:00 PM) – Historical Book Presentation
    The City Council Hall “E. De Giovanni” at the Town Hall (Piazza del Popolo 31) will host the presentation of the book “June 2, 1946: The Story of a Referendum”, with author, member of parliament, and essayist Federico Fornaro. The event is promoted by the Faenza Committee for the Promotion and Defense of the Constitution in collaboration with ANPI Faenza.

Exhibitions

“Italy 1946: The Dawn of the Republic”

Venue: Hall of Flags, Town Hall (Piazza del Popolo 31)
Dates: May 21 – June 8, 2026, open Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
Details: Curated by the Institute for the History of the Resistance of Ravenna in collaboration with the Battle of the Senio Museum, the exhibition explores Italy’s democratic transition and the introduction of universal suffrage. On Wednesday, June 3 at 5:00 PM, an exclusive guided tour will be led by curator Giuseppe Masetti.

“Italy, Unity, Republic”

Venue: Museum of the Risorgimento and Contemporary History (Corso Garibaldi 2)
Dates: Opening on Friday, May 29 at 8:00 PM; the exhibition will remain open until September 27, 2026, every Sunday and public holiday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Details: Exhibition of military and historical illustrations created by artist Pietro Compagni to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic.
