“The Shadow” by Andreea Badragan: The Human Psyche Modeled in Clay
The solo exhibition by artist Andreea Badragan, titled “The Shadow,” has opened to the public in Faenza. Created in close collaboration with the Ente Ceramica Faenza and accompanied by a critical essay by ceramist Elvira Keller, the exhibition uses clay and the ceramic medium as a topographical tool to explore, map, and understand the complexities and depths of the subconscious mind.
The Paradox of Change: Between the Shadow Self and Rebirth
Decisively influenced by the author’s academic studies in the field of psychology, the entire installation develops around a fundamental paradox: there can be no real psychological rebirth without a symbolic death. To evolve and achieve inner integrity, Humans must first accept abandoning old habits and rigid daily defense mechanisms.
The exhibition unfolds through two distinct and interconnected conceptual phases:
- The Shadow Self: Represents the moment of confrontation. The clay sculptures act as a psychological mirror that invites the visitor to look beyond social masks, openly confronting fears, hidden desires, and the darkest sides of their own selves.
- The Burial Pod: Intended as a metaphor for a true psychological womb. In this phase of transition and healing, the figures emerge from the ceramic simulacra to symbolize the coming to light of a finally integrated, mature, and conscious self.
“I hope that this art has the power to connect us to a deeper level, inviting everyone to respect their own intimate moments of collapse and turning point.”
– Andreea Badragan
