Variazioni sul classico: From France to Faenza, a Lecture at Palazzo Milzetti
On Thursday 8 October 2026, as part of the “Mirabili Relazioni” series, Palazzo Milzetti hosts the lecture “Variazioni sul classico. Dalla Francia a Faenza: architettura e decorazione nell’Europa neoclassica” (Variations on the Classical: From France to Faenza — Architecture and Decoration in Neoclassical Europe), curated by Luigi Gallo.
A journey through the transformation of classical language across Europe between the second half of the 18th century and the early decades of the 19th, from Jacques-François Blondel’s teachings to the work of Soufflot, Ledoux and Boullée, through to the synthesis achieved in the revolutionary and Napoleonic era. The lecture traces the exchange of models, drawings and ideas between France and Italy, placing Palazzo Milzetti — with its architecture by Giuseppe Pistocchi and decorations by Felice Giani — as a key case study for understanding Neoclassicism as a modern system of images and spaces, born from the dialogue between Italian tradition and European culture.
