Every year, on the night of 31 October, Riolo Terme celebrates the Celtic New Year, also known as Samhain, the origin of Halloween. This event evokes ancient traditions marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, through symbolic rituals, bonfires and legends connected to the world of spirits and ancestors.
The medieval village comes alive with Celtic-themed craft markets, food stalls offering traditional dishes and mulled wine, travelling performances with folk music and dances, fire shows and evocative acts that turn the streets into a magical, timeless journey.
The most anticipated moment is the fire ritual: in the moat of the Rocca di Riolo, a large effigy symbolising adversity is set ablaze, followed by fireworks lighting up the night sky. A tradition that combines the purifying power of fire with the meaning of rebirth, accompanied by costumed parades and atmospheres that recall the charm of the Middle Ages and Celtic culture.
