This route is part of the official hiking network "I Petali della Ginestra" of Riolo Terme. The itinerary runs near the Regional Park of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for the geological significance of its evaporite karst landscape in the Northern Apennines.
The Gallisterna route leads up one of the most thrilling climbs in our area, celebrated for its hosting of the 2020 Cycling World Championships, and is also perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Starting from the Historic Village
The itinerary begins at the Town Hall in the centre of Riolo Terme. Before setting off on the trails, it is well worth visiting the Rocca Sforzesca, a Renaissance fortress and symbol of the village, closely linked to the history of Caterina Sforza, the "Tiger of Romagna".

Parco Scattini and the Thermal Spa
Leaving the town behind, the route reaches Parco Scattini, located on the banks of the Senio River, where you will find the monument dedicated to General Arturo Scattini, who played a key role in the liberation of Riolo Terme on 11 April 1945. Continuing on, you will arrive at the renowned Riolo Thermal Spa, famous for its elegant Liberty-style architecture and its extensive park filled with centuries-old trees.

Laghi Azzurri
The route then follows the hiking trail alongside the Molino di Serravalle canal, accompanied by the soothing sound of flowing water. Continuing along the itinerary, you will reach an area renowned for its picturesque lakes, known as the Laghi Azzurri. This section offers a peaceful landscape of trees and meadows, ideal for a relaxing break and for observing the local birdlife.

Isola and the Margherita Hack Bridge
The itinerary continues towards the hamlet of Isola. Here, you will cross the metal Margherita Hack Bridge, spanning the Senio River and offering panoramic views of the valley below.

Climb to the Church of Gallisterna
The final stop is the Church of San Tommaso Apostolo in Gallisterna, easily recognisable by its elegant, slender bell tower. Located at the highest point of the route (approximately 105 m a.s.l.), it offers magnificent views over the surrounding hills before the descent back to the historic centre.
