This route is part of the official hiking network "I Petali della Ginestra" of Riolo Terme. The itinerary runs near the Regional Park of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for the geological significance of its evaporite karst landscape in the Northern Apennines.
A nature trail to discover Monte Mauro, the highest peak of the Regional Park of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola (515 m), a karst landscape between the Senio and Sintria Valleys.
-
Starting from the Historic Village
The route begins in the thermal area of Riolo, where a camper area is available at the River Park. A short distance away, you will find the historic thermal spa, a Liberty-style complex surrounded by a large park of centuries-old trees.
-
In the Heart of the Vena del Gesso
Leaving the valley floor behind, the route enters the Regional Park. Among ridges and steep climbs and descents, you reach Picco Camurani, offering spectacular views over the badlands. The trail continues southwards to Ca' Castellina Parking Area, which marks the entrance to the summit loop of the mountain.

The Monte Mauro Loop
The most panoramic section of the route develops around Monte Mauro, a place of great natural interest, characterized by its three distinctive peaks. Here you will find the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Tiberiaco, of medieval origin and rebuilt in its current style.
A little further on, you will reach an exceptional viewpoint overlooking Monte della Volpe and the blind valley of Rio Stella. Continuing on, the route reaches the Sella di Ca' Faggia, offering a view of the Torresina Cave, a site where lapis specularis was extracted during Roman times.
After completing the loop around the summit, the itinerary follows the trail back north, crossing the gypsum ridges once again before returning to the starting point in Riolo Terme.
