Cycling itinerary in the Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnola
The Gessi Cycle Route is a cycling path of great geological and scenic interest, developed around Brisighella, in the province of Ravenna. With a length of about 30 km (or 21 km for the first loop), this high-difficulty route is ideal for cycling and mountain biking enthusiasts.
The route mainly follows low-traffic paved roads and, in dry conditions, offers variants along trails that cross the picturesque Monticino Open-Air Geological Museum, an area rich in gypsum outcrops and unique karst formations. Along the way, visitors encounter sites of great naturalistic and historical interest, such as the Brisighella Fortress, the Monticino Sanctuary, and the Ca’ Carnè visitor center.
The cycle route offers panoramic views of the characteristic karst landscapes, with a rich Mediterranean and woodland biodiversity. The itinerary also passes through Passo della Valletta and Zattaglia, with the option to extend the tour by including a loop around Monte Mauro, the main peak of the Vena del Gesso.
Perfect for cycling and nature lovers, the Gessi Cycle Route provides an immersive experience in the heart of the Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnola, ideal for discovering the geology, flora, and fauna of this fascinating protected area.
