The Famoso grape variety (called Rambèla in dialect) has been rediscovered in Romagna after years of neglect and has now fully returned as part of the region’s wine offering. Once used as a table grape, today it is vinified. The resulting wine has a light yellow color of medium-high intensity, with hues of the same tone or slightly greenish reflections. It presents a very intense aromatic profile reminiscent of Moscato.
Production Area
Province of Ravenna and Forlì-Cesena, with particular reference to the hilly and mountainous areas.
Typical Characteristics
A rather vigorous and very productive grape variety. The cluster is generally loose, but in cool and fertile soils it becomes more compact. Harvest generally takes place between September 10 and 30. The wine shows a very intense aromatic profile reminiscent of Moscato (aromatic terpenes such as linalool). It also displays sweet floral notes (linden blossom, orange blossom, hawthorn, jasmine), exotic fruit (banana), ripe stone fruit (apricot and peach), and dried fruit. Citrus notes and aromatic herbs such as sage add freshness. On the palate, it highlights medium acidity, good softness and structure. Overall, it is balanced and elegant.
On the table, it pairs well with all fish dishes, including those with bold flavors such as bluefish, typical of Romagnol cuisine (mackerel, anchovies, mullet, sardines, and sardoni), whose intense aromas and flavors it can balance. Served at 12–13°C, Famoso can also be paired with spiced first courses, herb risottos, fresh cheeses, and preparations based on white meats.
