Come to Castel Bolognese by travelling along the Via Emilia, the historic route that runs through the heart of the region, or by taking a train on the Bologna–Rimini line. Here you can spend a day immersed in history and tradition, authentic flavours and timeless rural landscapes.
The ideal way to move around this area is at the slow pace of a bicycle, passing through the historic centre and its points of interest. Starting from Piazza Bernardi, you can easily reach the Civic Museum, open on Sundays, or wander among the works of Angelo Biancini, displayed along an open-air route dedicated to the artist.
Then head towards the hills, among clay gullies, fragrant broom and endless vineyards, stretching northwards as far as the Regional Park of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola.
Here the wines of Romagna tradition are produced, but the undisputed king of these hills is Sangiovese, expressed in the distinctive character of the Serra, a sub-area of the Romagna DOC with its own unique terroir. This is an extraordinarily varied land, with soils that change dramatically according to altitude. In the lower areas, red and grey clays prevail, while higher up you encounter gypsum marls and ochre-coloured soils that shape the landscape.
From time to time we organise Ciclico, a community initiative and an immersive experience that brings together culture, nature and gastronomy, inviting a form of slow tourism that allows you to truly experience the landscape, meet local producers and discover places rich in history. Guided tours, cycling excursions, tastings and quality time spent together between the village, the countryside and the hills of the Serra.
