The Re Tiberius Cave, steeped in local legends, has been known since time immemorial. Its fame has been enhanced over the years by numerous archaeological finds that attest to an almost continuous use from the Eneolithic period through the Medieval era.
Visible traces can be easily observed along the walls of this fascinating cavity, which can be visited for the first 70 meters in the standard tourist tour. A striking chamber, called the Gothic Hall, marks the end of the conventional visit. Beyond this point, only those who choose the caving tour venture further, following in the footsteps of the first explorers.
For a complete experience of the underground world, a visit to the nearby Karst and Speleology Visitor Center at the Casa Cantoniera in Borgo Rivola is highly recommended, where local karst phenomena can be explored in depth. The same site also hosts the Re Tiberius Hostel, a convenient stop along the dense network of trails in the Vena del Gesso Romagnola Regional Park.
