From Tossignano to Ca' Budrio via Riva di San Biagio: a hike of high naturalistic value in the Vena del Gesso Romagnola
The Riva di San Biagio Loop is a circular hiking route of about 8.5 km, starting from the main square of Tossignano, a picturesque medieval village built on the gypsum ridge, with panoramic views of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola and the Santerno River valley.
The route, spanning the provinces of Ravenna and Bologna, offers an immersive nature experience, with significant botanical, wildlife, geological, and landscape interest.
The total duration of the hike is approximately 8 hours, excluding possible stops for a picnic in the shaded meadows under chestnut groves. The loop is also accessible from Borgo Rivola, where the Vena del Gesso Regional Park has provided a designated parking area. From here, it is possible to follow the path leading to Via Sasso Letroso and the scenic church, easily connecting to the loop trail.
The hike passes through areas rich in sinkholes, gypsum scrublands, centuries-old chestnut groves, and viewpoints ideal for spotting wild orchids, porcupines, birds of prey, and other elements of the biodiversity of the Romagna Apennines.
