The Crystal Trail: hike in the heart of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola Regional Park. The Crystal Trail is a captivating hiking route that winds near the gypsum massif of Monte Mauro, within the wildest and most unspoiled area of the Vena del Gesso Romagnola Regional Park.
This trail, suitable for everyone, leads through woods and gypsum cliffs, offering a unique experience among nature, geology, and archaeology. Along the path, visitors can admire the main quarries of lapis specularis (transparent gypsum used in Roman times) and some of the most spectacular external karst formations, such as sinkholes and blind valleys, characteristic of the Vena del Gesso.
The geological landscape is particularly striking: in addition to the spectacular gypsum cliff dominating the central part of the trail, panoramic viewpoints clearly show the Marnoso-arenacea Formation to the south, the Pliocene Blue Clay gullies to the north, and the Po Valley on the horizon.
