Fine Winemaking in the Heart of the Marzeno Valley
Located on the rolling hills overlooking Faenza, in one of the most interesting wine-growing areas of Romagna, Ca’ di Sopra Estate stands as a benchmark for quality wine production.
Founded in 1967, the winery is nestled on the Agello hill, benefiting from a unique microclimate and predominantly clay-calcareous soils. With an altitude ranging from one hundred and twenty to two hundred and forty meters above sea level, these lands have historically produced grapes of absolute quality. For over forty years, the Montanari family has tended to this fifty-two-hectare estate, twenty-nine of which are dedicated to vineyards, maintaining a profound bond with the land and local heritage.
The path toward excellence took a significant step forward in the year two thousand, when the estate began an ambitious vineyard renewal process, replacing older vines with modern, high-density plantings. This evolution reached a turning point in two thousand and six, when Camillo and Giacomo Montanari decided to translate the great oenological potential of the Marzeno valley into a high-end, artisanal production. The Marzeno area is the smallest and most precious subzone of the Romagna Sangiovese appellation, a terroir that Ca’ di Sopra tells through wines of strong character, particularly Sangiovese and Albana, which faithfully reflect the nature of their soils.
The vineyards are divided into two main estates: the Ca’ di Sopra farm, located on the summit of the Agello hill with exposures ranging from south-east to north-west, and the Ca’ del Rosso farm, which extends along the northern slope. The diversity of the soil, ranging from mature red clays to the blue, fossil-rich soils near the gullies, grants each label a distinctive complexity. The winery itself is a boutique facility where research, study, and analysis are transformed into wine, prioritizing quality over quantity.
Welcoming guests to the estate is a fundamental part of the Ca’ di Sopra philosophy. Visitors are invited to discover the vineyards and the aging cellar through guided tours available by reservation.
The Romagna One path offers an introduction to the territory and its typical varieties, featuring a focused tasting of three wines, including Albana and Sangiovese, designed for those seeking an authentic first encounter.
For those looking for a deeper exploration, the Romagna Two path presents the identity of the Marzeno terroir, delving into the estate’s experimentation and dedication through a flight of six wines, ranging from Trebbiano to the finest selections.
