History and Authenticity in the Brisighella Hills
Time seems to stand still at the ancient stone complex that houses the Baccagnano Agricultural Estate. Built starting in the 13th century around the church of San Nicola, this site is now an agritourism surrounded by vineyards and orchards, a guardian of a rich history that still echoes among the two centenary cypresses that welcome every guest upon arrival. Located on the first hills of Brisighella, at an altitude of about one hundred meters above sea level, the estate benefits from a privileged position on a fluvial terrace of the Lamone river, where the clay soils and the constant valley breeze define the character of the wines.
The estate's winemaking approach is honest and deeply artisanal. The winery focuses directly on indigenous grape varieties of the Val Lamone, such as Sangiovese, Albana, and Trebbiano Romagnolo, striving to minimize any external intervention. The cellar, built in 2019 and completely underground, is tucked away like a natural cave, ensuring constant temperature and humidity levels throughout the year. Here, vinification follows respectful yet energetic rhythms: the grapes, harvested strictly by hand, undergo processing methods that exclude selected yeasts, chemical additives, or forced temperature controls.
A fascinating highlight is the use of Georgian amphorae, known as Qvevri, for the fermentation of Albana. Inside these vessels, the must rests for over thirty days in contact with the skins, a natural process that transforms the grapes into a wine with a deep, profound character. This same pursuit of authenticity is reflected in the choice to use Burgundy bottles sealed with screw caps, a decision made to ensure optimal wine preservation over time, combining practicality with respect for the final product.
Authentic Hospitality
In addition to wine, Baccagnano offers an authentic hospitality experience. The medieval complex features double rooms on the first floor and apartments with kitchenettes on the ground floor, completed by a welcoming library lounge. Guests can enjoy a wide range of activities, including bicycle rentals, guided excursions, cooking classes, winery tastings, and foraging sessions, for a true immersion into the territory of Brisighella.
